I saw Sword and the Sorcerer at release with my dad. As an avid D&D player, I felt the need to apologize and explain that what I was doing had nothing to do with this film. I've never regained my Father's respect.
I was also 12. Better than the Beastmaster? Yes. I just couldn't reconcile myself to that wobbly, shooting tri-blade. I'm sure I would appreciate it now but you have to admit that was decidedly "off-canon". I never liked Matt Houston either.
I got the DVD sitting on my shelf. I can't imagine a more perfect film for a 12-year old boy. It has action and adventure, satanic monsters, outrageous weaponry, extreme gore, and boobage. But unlike "Barbarian Queen", it isn't so sleazy as to be inapproriate for adolescents.
I just put it in the same category as Krull. If you thought that was awesome, then I'm afraid our 12-year-old selves would not have played well together. I just was not impressed by the Jem, truly outrageous weaponry.
Ok I've just watched Vincent Price on the Dating Game. Whatever our potential differences might have been on the playground of our youth, we're united in this appreciation. I'm sure FUTURECHIMP is well acquainted with the Hilarious House of Frightensein? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZKybIIyvG4
I discovered Hilarious House of Frightenstein very recently, only in the last few years. It's a Canadian show, so I don't know if it was syndicated in the states at all.

My mom took me to see it when I was 12, and as an avid D&D player, I loved every moment of it.
