New Electronic Musical Invention: Mod-o-Tron Mini

First there was The Futuristic Frankensynth. Then the Mighty Mod-o-Tron. And now I unveil Mod-o-Tron Mini, Master of All Ribbon Synths.

Different from the first Mod-o-Tron in several ways: the overall size is smaller and the ribbon is much shorter (20cm instead of the original 50cm), but has a wider frequency range of several octaves (so you can do dramatic sweeps, but it's more difficult to hit a melody on this model).

Also, this uses a Korg Monotron Delay as its synth (no additional effects or pedals are added; everything heard in this recording is from the onboard circuit), so you gain some neat effects, but you lose the two knobs for pitch range and VCF resonance found on the original Monotron. Had I known this before ordering online, I would have stuck with the original.

Most thrilling of all developments is a pressure pad for volume, which I haven't done on any previous devices. Flipping the toggle switch to its left disables it, sending the signal through the volume knob instead. This frees up the left hand to adjust filters and effects.

Cost was about $90 total for all electronics and materials.
