Movie of the Week: Creation of the Humanoids (1962)

One of the smartest science fiction movies of the atomic age is pretty stagey, but the proto-Philip K. Dick story is engrossing, the minimal sets and saturated lighting are lovely, the musical score creeps up your spine, and there's that guy from Plan Nine from Outer Space. Make sure to see this one, preferably on DVD and a big screen.

New Metal Robots Video

I did a cover of Bob Segar's Night Moves as a challenge; taking a song I really disliked and trying make it tolerable. This cut in particular was from two years ago, which I just dug up on my computer this morning, and one of the earliest versions. It's really noisy and filthy, and I've decided it blows away the more refined, pretty version that was recorded months later and ended up on the Metal Robots album/playlist. So I just made a video by syncing it to Night of the Living Dead, which is in the public domain, so youtube won't pull it (as they have with most of my other music videos).

Movie of the Week: Shivers (1975)

Cronenberg's first feature film, Shivers (a.k.a. They Came from Within) defines his entire oeuvre immediately. It manages to simultaneously be exploitive, deeply horrific, and very intelligent, a perfect film for the mid-70's zeitgeist of sexual liberation and modernized living.

Out of print on home video since the 90's (used DVDs are currently selling on Amazon for over $100), so see it before it disappears.

200th Customer Giveaway

Hey look, it's the Novelties by Stexe 200th Customer Sweepstakes. To celebrate my 200th sale through Etsy (happened a few weeks ago, but I'm just getting around to doing this post) I'm offering a FREE Melting Man Figurine.

Unlike the Melting Mandle, this is cast not in candle wax but everlasting resin. Polychromed in acrylic paint. Stands 5" tall. Not for sale by me or anyone else; it's a one-of-a-kind item. When this one is given away, there will be none left.

To claim him, simply be the first to buy anything in my store, from an $8 keychain to a $100 lamp.  Then make sure to type "melting man" in the special instructions box during checkout, and if he's available then he's all yours. If you're too late, you might get a runner-up booby prize. Good luck. Shop HERE.

Also, I've opened a new Facebook page for my Etsy store, and it's available to the public. Visit HERE and hit "like". You won't be sent any messages, just two or three posts per month will appear on your news feed. Don't miss out on new items, works in progress, coupon codes, and special sweepstakes like this one. Do it, damn your eyes, do it I say.
